Telpochcalli supports three artist-in-residence who work with teachers to develop an integrated Mexican arts program and curriculum. Artist residencies include visual arts, drama, and vocal and instrumental music. All students are exposed to each of the art forms during the year. Every student is encouraged to find their sense of artistic expression and the artist in themselves. The artist and teacher work together to create a schedule to enhance the curriculum through the designated art medium. Teachers and artist should also plan together at a time they determine. The artist work with each class for two hours a week and receive one hour of planning time for each two hours of work. In the primary and middle clusters the artist work is determined by subject area.
Telpochcalli’s main arts integration Arts integration partner is CAPE organization. Chicago Arts Partnership in Education (CAPE) has provided us with grants under their veterans program which supplements the funds provided by the school. Request for funding are due in June and there are simple reports that need to be submitted by the grant writers.
